This summer, stretch your legs and soak up the scenic sights in and around Elora by visiting local trails and hiking hotspots. Spend a few hours or a full day immersed in a gorgeous backdrop of trees, rivers, lookouts and trails that are ideal for walking and hiking. Today, our preferred property management company, Williams and McDaniel, has put together some of Elora’s best local hiking trails that residents of the Sandstone Apartments and Executive Suites should make a point of visiting.
Elora Cataract Trailway
The Elora Cataract Trailway is part of the Trans Canada Trail system, offers approximately 47 kilometres of linear greenland to explore and passes through Hillsburgh, Erin, Orton, Belwood, Fergus, Elora and Cataract. Walkers, hikers and cyclists are welcome on all parts of the trail and certain sections are open to equestrians. Check out the trail map to plan out your route in advance. The Sandstone Apartments and Executive Suites are a 33-minute drive and 31-minute drive, respectively. The trailway also offers parking at several trailhead locations.
Elora Gorge
Hiking, kayaking and inner tubing down the Grand River valley are just a few activities you can enjoy at the Elora Gorge. The gorge boasts 22-metre high limestone cliffs, a 20-metre waterfall and a luscious grouping of Cedar trees. The gorge is open from April to October and its 10 kilometres of trail make it an ideal place for running, geocaching, hiking and walking. Located at 7400 Wellington County Road 21, the conservation area is a four-minute drive and 31-minute walk from the Executive Suites and a five-minute drive and 29-minute walk from the Sandstone Apartments.
Fergus & District Community Centre Trail
Drop by the Fergus & District Community Centre Trail for both long and short hikes on its four kilometres of trail. The trail’s design loops around Fergus’ Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex, which features washrooms and parking spaces for those who would prefer to drive. Located at 550 Belsyde Avenue East in Fergus, the trail is a 10-minute drive from the Executive Suites and a 12-minute drive from the Sandstone Apartments.
Belwood Lake Conservation Trail
Consisting of 3.3 kilometres of trail and located near the Elora Cataract Trailway, Belwood Lake Conservation Trail offers a brilliant view of the Grand River Valley. After you’ve finished your hike, cool down in the conservation area’s 12 kilometres of lake water. Located at 8282 Wellington County Road 18 in Fergus, Belwood Lake is a 16-minute drive from the Sandstone Apartments and a 14-minute drive from the Executive Suites.
Start the summer off right by exploring the natural sights and sounds of Elora. Located at 120-122 David Street East and 145 Kertland Street, Williams and McDaniel’s Sandstone Apartments and Executive Suites offer current and prospective residents rental options that they’re sure to love.
