The Civic Holiday long weekend is this July 30th to August 1st. It’s an opportunity to relax and enjoy the summer.  Living in Elora means that there are lots of great choices for getting out and for some beautiful leisure time. The Williams and McDaniel blog team have some suggestions for how to spend a relaxing weekend.

Have a picnic

Sitting by the banks of the Grand River with a blanket and a picnic basket is a perfectly relaxing way to spend a summer afternoon this holiday weekend. Bissell Park is only a 3 minute walk from the Executive Suites at 51 Mary Street, Elora. There is even a picnic shelter if it starts to rain, or the sun gets too hot.

Go fishing

Elora is home to some of the best fishing in Ontario, and right now is the best time for brown trout, in the Grand River. You can cast your line into the river and pull out a fresh fish for dinner anywhere from Bissell park to the Elora Gorge Conservation area (east of Bissell Park and west of the conservation area, catch and release regulations apply). Both Bissell Park and the conservation area can be reached on foot within 10 minutes of Sandstone Apartments (120 -122 David Street East, Elora).

Take a hike

Living in Elora means that you are never far away from naturally beautiful hiking trails. The Elora Gorge Trail features a 20 meter waterfall along limestone cliffs. The entrance to the conservation area is only about a 5 minute drive from Sandstone Apartments or the Executive Suites at 51 Mary Street.

Go jump in the lake

The Elora Quarry is another perfect place to spend some time this weekend and it’s only about a 12 minute walk from the Executive Suites at 145 Kertland Street. There is a large beach area for sunbathing and easy access to the water. There is also a 1 km loop walking trail. Of course, if a longer walk is what you’re looking for, the 47 km Elora Cataract Trail is nearby.

There are so many beautiful places to spend time in Elora this long weekend. Whatever you choose to do, the Williams and McDaniel blog team wishes you a safe, happy and relaxing long weekend. For more information on Williams and McDaniel rental properties, please visit our website.
