Living in Elora means that you are never far from some of the most awe-inspiring natural beauty in all of the Grand River Valley. The Elora Gorge features many scenic lookouts from its 22 metre high cliffs, great fishing, hiking, camping and more. Get to know the gorge, in this week’s post from the Williams and McDaniel blog team.

Hiking

Some of the most breathtaking scenic hiking trails in the province can be enjoyed at the Elora Gorge. There are 3 kilometres of walking trails with spectacular views of the 22 metre deep gorge. For your safety, only hike on marked trails. The trails are shown in the park brochure. The park is only a 5 or 6 minute drive from the Executive Suites at 145 Kertland Street, Elora.

Fishing

Some of the best brown trout fishing in all of North America can be found in the stretch of the Grand River that flows through the Elora Gorge. Why not try your luck this summer? Most anglers wade into the river, which can be slippery, so wading cleats are recommended. Make sure you follow provincial fishing regulations.

Tubing

An exciting way to see the gorge in all it’s glory is to ride an inner tube down the river! Look up at the steep cliffs and natural beauty all around you as you flow with the current. Be sure to check the tubing conditions before you leave.

Camping

If you’re looking to leave the comfort of your Elora home and spend the night in the great outdoors, the Elora Gorge is the place to do it. There are 150 campsites serviced with water and electrical and another 230 unserviced sites, if you’re looking to rough it. There is no alcohol permitted in the park or campsites. You can book your site online. The entrance to the park is located at 7400 Wellington County Road 21, only a 5 minute drive from Sandstone Apartments (120 -122 David Street East, Elora).
People travel for hours to get a glimpse of the Elora Gorge, but living at your Williams and McDaniel rental property in Elora means this sought after destination is practically in your backyard. Have a picnic

Bissell Park is only a 3 minute walk from the Executive Suites at 51 Mary Street, Elora. There is even a picnic shelter if it starts to rain, or the sun gets too hot.

Go fishing

Elora is home to some of the best fishing in Ontario, and right now is the best time for brown trout, in the Grand River. You can cast your line into the river and pull out a fresh fish for dinner anywhere from Bissell park to the Elora Gorge Conservation area (east of Bissell Park and west of the conservation area, catch and release regulations apply). Both Bissell Park and the conservation area can be reached on foot within 10 minutes of Sandstone Apartments (120 -122 David Street East, Elora).
