Hallowe’en Crafts for Kids

Decorate your Elora apartment in spooky style by enlisting the help of your kids. Not only will kids get the chance to get creative, but you’ll also have an array of inexpensive, seasonal crafts to display around your apartment space for all your guests and trick or treaters to see. Get your paintbrushes, glue and construction paper ready because today on the blog, our preferred property management company, Williams and McDaniel has some Halloween crafts you can make with the help of your little ones.

Pumpkin and Monster Jars

Use up those empty pasta sauce jars or rescue other glass jars of all sizes and shapes from the recycling bin with this ‘Fantastic Fun and Learning’ Pumpkin and Monster Jars craft. Thin out white glue with water and paint the entire surface of the jar and roll in icing-tinted Epsom salts. You can choose any colours you desire, but orange and green seem quite fitting for the occasion. If there are spots that aren’t covered with salt, sprinkle handfuls on any areas that are not entirely covered. Apply a coat of clear acrylic paint to keep salt from rubbing off as the jars move around. For best results, it is important that you leave the jars to dry before decorating them with spooky trimmings like black ribbon, googly eyes and foam eyes. These materials are available at Michaels located on 15 Woodlawn Road West, which is a 20-minute drive from both the Sandstone apartments and the Executive Suites. The finished jars can either be filled with battery-operated tea lights or real ones, depending on where you plan to display them.

Pasta Skeletons

These Pasta Skeletons by ‘Martha Stewart’ offer an exciting and fun way to learn about anatomy by making a skeleton out of pasta noodles. Using an illustration of a skeleton as a guide, all you’ll need is lots of dried pasta, which you can pick up at Dar’s Country Market on 6458 Wellington Road. Both the Elora apartments are less than 10 minutes away from the store. This white glue and construction paper can be picked up at Stockade Wood & Craft Supply located on 785 Imperial North, which is 24 minutes away from the apartments. Depending on how you want to create your skeleton, you may need to snap some of the pasta pieces in half. If you want to get especially educational you can even use alphabet noodles to make labels for the bones.

Paper Bag Bats

Try the ‘Mer Mag’ Paper Bag Bats for a super easy craft that uses up materials around your house. Using a cardboard tube, paint and a paper bag, you and your kids can create a décor item that can be used for many things. Kids can use them as finger puppets or adults can use them as Halloween-themed napkin holders, party favours filled with sugary sweets or simply place them around the apartment. Whatever you decide to do with this cost-effective craft, it will effortlessly and eerily enhance your apartment space. Visit Michaels for the acrylic paint and whatever else you need to create this craft.
